LOADING 7 RTGS ONTO THE HAPPY DOVER

Project Summary

In November 2023, on-site assistance was provided during the loading of 7 used rubber tire gantry (RTG) cranes onto the BigLift
project cargo vessel HAPPY DOVER. To increase the useable deck space, tweendeck hatch covers were installed, partly
overhanging the ship sides. Each RTG was lifted on using the two ship cranes in tandem. The lifting slings with spreader bars were
hooked to existing padeyes on the RTGs (which required removal of some of the access stairs on one side). After loading each RTG,
it was rollled to its final stowage location on its own power. Once in final position, the tires were parlty deflated to lower the RTG onto
support beams. Ship lashings were then used to lash the RTG to the vessel deck. After all 7 RTGs were loaded and lashed and the
Marine Surveyor approval received, the HAPPY DOVER departed San Pedro with destination Cape Town, where the RTGs were
safely delivered in late December.
